The aim of this project in Tok Sedau, Kedah is to carry out a safe closure of an unlined waste dumpsite while preserving the natural environment to our best ability. The project was granted to HULS by the Jabatan Pengurusan Sisa Pepejal Negara (JPSPN). The existing waste at the site covered with a layer of soil foundation, followed by an impermeable HDPE-geotextile layer and top soil. The design of the safe closure includes leachate pipes constructed through the landfill that drains into a natural leachate treatment pond. The earth drain constructed around the perimeter of the dumpsite directs rainwater away from the covered waste. At the end of the project, hydroseeding is carried out to give the site a natural green finish while securing the top soil layer in place.
